It’s that time of year again where the air conditioning goes off, the paddling pool is packed away and the heating comes back on! We’ve all experienced those chilly mornings and cool evenings.
But what should you be doing to make sure your Fischer heating is ready to go for the winter? We have the answers!
Change the batteries in your thermostat
Before the start of the winter season, it’s always advisable to change the batteries in your thermostat. We say to change the batteries once every 12 months anyway, and right before the heating season starts is the best time to do it. It’s simple to do and takes no more than 30 seconds but will make all the difference!
If you don’t change the batteries regularly, you may notice your heater can be slow to switch on and will leave you wanting more heat.
We recommend Duracell or Energizer batteries and 2 x AAA batteries is all you need. If you would like to talk it through with us first, you can always give our friendly technical support team a ring on 0800 103 2700.
Use 2 temperatures – comfort and economy
Switching between 2 set temperatures can help keep your running costs down and your comfort levels up this winter. By setting a lower economy temperature (3-5 degrees less than the comfort), your heater will have a lot less work to do when it switches on. Although it sounds odd, this may even keep your running costs down.
If you turn the heater completely off overnight, come the morning, the room temperature may be significantly lower and the heater will have to stay on for longer to reach 21 degrees. By maintaining 16 degrees overnight, your heater only has to heat the room 5 degrees each day, rather than 10+ with no heating on to keep the fabric of the building warm.
Our exclusive wireless, programmable thermostat will do all of the work for you once you have set the temperatures, making it much easier for you, the customer.
Program the thermostat to your preference
Many people worry about their programming, fearing a longer program may heavily impact on their energy costs. Of course, the more energy you use, the more energy you pay for, but you have to be comfortable.
Don’t suffer in the cold – program your thermostat to heat your home when you need it. Many people spend their day in the kitchen or living room, so set the hours you will be in the room.
Out at work all day? Program the heater to come on 1 hour before you get home so you don’t come home to a cold property.
Not in the bedrooms all day? Let them tick over at the background temperature until 1 hour before you go to bed, rather than heating an unused room all day!
It’s simple once you know how, and our trained installers will have talked you through the process on the day of installation.
