Governmental Push for More Electric Cars

Blog Post

Have you seen in the news today? The government aim to reduce carbon emissions and clean the air by banning new petrol and diesel cars from 2040. Find out more and discover why the future really is electric.

In a real attempt to clean up air pollution and make Great Britain a more efficient country, the Government envisions a future whereby as a nation, we are less dependent on non-renewable energy. The Government has stated that new diesel and petrol vehicles will be banned in the UK from 2040. Whilst the Government plans to ban diesel and petrol vehicles, they are aware that many purchased new diesel vehicles due to the advice given by the previous government and are therefore wary of any future plans.

As part of the overall £3bn package budgeted for spending on clean air quality, councils will be given a £255m fund to tackle the air pollution that comes from diesel vehicles. The fund is likely to be spent on improving public transports, altering speed bumps and reprogramming traffic lights to make vehicle-flow smoother. There are also talks of a vehicle scrappage scheme, but nothing has been confirmed just yet

“Air pollution is thought to be linked to about 40,000 premature deaths a year in the UK, and transport also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.”*
